WHAT TO EXPECT
Your visit to Dallas Vein Institute will begin with a brief review of your medical history followed by a physical exam. Together, the medical history review and physical exam take about 30 minutes. An ultrasound imaging study will be performed on patients with varicose veins and more advanced vein problems; however, patients with spider veins and no other symptoms can typically receive same-day treatment if desired.
If you have varicose veins or more advanced vein problems, we will use ultrasound imaging to determine the location and the extent of the underlying vein reflux that is causing your vein problems. The ultrasound exam can take up to 60 minutes.
Following the ultrasound exam, our doctors will share their findings and discuss your personalized treatment options with you. We'll work together to identify the therapy that best suits your needs medically and financially, and get you scheduled for treatment.
Depending on your insurance coverage, you may require prior authorization for your insurance to cover vein treatment. Our office manager will help you understand your insurance coverage and how it applies to your treatment plan. We will be able to provide other payment options in the unlikely event that your insurance does not cover treatment.
Please arrive to your appointment 15 minutes early, bring your insurance card if you have insurance, drivers license or photo ID, completed new patient forms, and a pair of loose fitting shorts. We provide disposable shorts if you need them. All of our vein treatments are performed at the Dallas Vein Institute. Treatments typically take about 30-60 minutes depending on your treatment plan and the extent of your vein problems. Please see our patient instructions to prepare for your treatment.
Limitations to your daily activities are minimal following vein treatments, and most patients are encouraged to walk immediately following their procedure. For most treatments, we recommend wearing compression stockings day and night on the treated leg for 3-5 days following your treatment to ensure permanent vein closure.
Follow-up is very important even after successful treatment to ensure that your legs stay healthy and happy. We'll ask you back for follow-up exams to check on the status of your veins and provide additional treatment if necessary.
